Dear All

I have also seen some Edmonstons in early records in New York. They are
famous for changing to Edmonsons. Keep in touch. In the next month I hope
to go through my piles and know that something is there about this.

Hi Edie,
I doubt I can help you, and I doubt you can help me, but maybe we can at
least
join our efforts.

I am searching for the parents and siblings of my gg-grandmother, Jane
Edmondson, born within a year of 1792 somewhere in the U.S. according to two
Canadian censuses. In about 1818 she married my gg-grandfather, George
Dean,
probably in York Co., Ontario, Canada. She died in 1860 in Waterloo Co.,
Ontario.
"Jane Dean" was named as a sister in the will of a John Edmondson/variant
spellings who died 26 Dec 1857 in Bradford, Simcoe Co., Ontario. According
to
his gravestone, he was born 12 May 1788. I do not know the place of his
birth.
There is quite a bit of evidence that the family of George and Jane
(Edmondson) Dean was closely associated with the family of Abijah and Mary
Newton. I believe this Abijah was the person by that name enumerated in the
1810
census in Ticonderoga, Essex Co., NY state. There is some evidence that he
probably was in VT and MA before 1810. According to various later Canadian
censuses, Abijah and Mary's children were born in the U.S. before 1818 and
in
Ontario after that year.
The will of John Edmondson mentioned above also names another sister,
Polly
Newton. I believe there is a good chance that this is the same person as
the
Mary Newton, wife of Abijah. According to Canadian censuses Mary was born
in
1785/86 somewhere in the U.S. She died after 1871, probably in Simcoe Co.,
Ontario.

So, in summary, I suspect that the following were siblings and that they
resided in northeastern NY state before about 1818.
John EDMONDSON, b. 12 May 1788, place unknown
Mary/Polly EDMONDSON, b. 1785/86 somewhere in the U.S.
Jane EDMONDSON, b. about 1792 somewhere in the U.S.

All this seems close enough to your information that it deserves posting.
I
have been a member of the Edmondson Family Association for a couple of years
and
on this mail list for some time. No one seems to know anything about any
Edmondson-s in MA, VT or NY state at these times. I have checked out
information
on Edmondson-s in Ontario, but none of them seem to be related to the family
I am
seeking.
