Here are a few excerpts of Jess Wilson's emails that refer to the 8th KY flag
made by the women of Estill County. I just wonder where the flag that was in
the bank vault is now?

Jim Frazier, To search for a Mary Wilson I need a time frame. When was she
born and where. The only Wilsons I know in Estill County is the family
that produced Captain John Wilson, the hero of Look-Out Mountain, the
battle that my grandfather, Alfred Wilson , no kin, and an another
regiment, described as the Battle Above the Clouds. If you come to Estill
County ask them to show you the flag, made by the women of Estil County,
that Captain John Wilson waved from the mountain top as tha fog cleared
below. The time I saw it it was in a bank vault in Irvine.
Once on our way back from the land of many bill boards, Ruth and I
visited the little park on Look-Out mountain. I mentioned to the woman at
the desk that I had seen the flag. She jumped both feet off the floor as
she turned and dashed into the office behind her. She returned with the
director of the park. We got a personally guided tour of the park as he
urged me to try to get the flag for a proposed museum in the park. It is a
park administrated by the U. S. Park Service under the Department of the
Interior. I was not successful. However, I feel that the flag should be
where many people can see it. I wonder where it is now.
I understand that Grover Wilson, the same who wrote the
Wilson-Richardson Genealogy, a lawyer at Hazard, was once the possessor of
the flag. I met him once at a Mary Breckingridge Day in Hyden, the county
seat of Leslie County, but this was before I ever saw the flag.

..."Before I ever came to Estill County I had read about Captain John Wilson,
a hero during the Civil War. He led a company of men who planted a flag on
Lookout Mountain to signal a Union win at the end of the Battle Above the
Clouds. The flag
was made by the women of Estill County. The late Judge S. H. Rice once took
me into a bank vault in Irvine and showed it to me."......
