According to our Gable family stories, this man did indeed reside in
Holland! We are uncertain as to his exact date of birth but was probable
born in England or Germany. It is also "said" that an old family Bible did
exist there in Holland or with some later family member. We have no proof
of this, but family member did state that while residing in Holland, that he
children learned from their German Bilble and that they spoke German. They
wee not necessarily of Swiss descent!!! Being unable to determine exactly
where the family actually resided in Germany. My own thoughts are that they
migrated to Holland for thoughts of later immigrating to the United States.
There was also some possibility that they felt safe there in Holland. Times
in Germany could have been quite difficult for them. I think that if one
resided in Holland that after a certain stay they could actually find their
passage to the new county, called America. And sure enough they did later
take passage and migrate! He and others took passage on the from England on
a vessell out of Rotterdam and then on the ship Queen Elizabeth with other
passengers who wer from the Palatines. The shipmaster was Alexander Hope.
I was firtunate enought to be given the copies of the ships lists!

Yes, there are still many unknow factors involved in the Gable family
research. But thank goodness Zelma took on this massive project, as it gave
us all somehing to go on! And now more info is available to us thatn was
available, back then. I have also researched the Gable family group that
Zelma mentioned in her manuscript. I was so lucky to have moved back to
Chatham/Effingham county area back on 1998! I did indeed find proof there
in the Georgia Historical Society that Zelma, and her fellow researchers
were there! Shown in an old card catalogue. Thus I followed up the
research on the questionable family who settled in that area. I have saved
that work done there including all resourses. Happy to share a copy with
anyone who is curious!!!

I also learned much about the Salzburger migrations and their families, of
whom I am related. So many reference books later we learn that the term
Swiss-German thing is not earlly a proper term!!! Something in later time
that given to some of these immigrants, and more than likely incorrectly
used.

Just have others have concluded, The Gable family was huge, and frustrating
to research. Many questions surfaced in regards to the name Valentine. I
finally let that rest in my mind. Some things in genealogical research, we
just cannot always find the answer! I follow the line as most have done,
via my well known Habersham County, Georgia GABLE/GABLES/GABRELS/GABRIELS
LINE! And then worked back from there. Of course many of them ended up in
South Carolina. Being "older" now I have left many questions unproven and
moved on to still putter around a bit with all of this massive info. I have
done so many other families that my head still swims with information. It
has been a great trip! If I can be of any help do let me know. I too have
a copy of Zelmas Manuscript that I keep here.
