Good Morning Everyone,

Just a couple of updates to let everyone know what has been happening.

Over the last couple of weeks, I have taken all but 3 of the Cemetery
Transcriptions that have been submitted to the Decatur County GAGenWeb
project and combined them into a Records Index of available records online.
The 3 cemeteries that have not been added to the index will be added over
the next week or so. I am in the process of updating their formatting so
that I can merge them in. The files have been broken down into smaller
files yet some are still big, please check them out and let me know how I
can make them better. Links to the pages are located on the main page for
Decatur County at http://www.rootsweb.com/~gadecatu/

In this index you will find the person's name, birth and death date, and any
notes known about the person. So far all the death indexes that have been
transcribed have been linked to the index as well.

As a work in progress some headstone pictures along with obituaries that are
already online have been linked to as well. When the individual was
married in Decatur County and their marriage record has been transcribed
that will have a link as well.

Other than the Death indexes online all other online information is still
in-progress with adding those links.

If you have a picture of a headstone that is not online, please send me a
copy for inclusion online.

With everyone's help this index will become one of the most valuable
resources for Decatur County researchers.

Next, a lot of the obituaries images online have been transcribed by Ida
Boyce and those images have been replaced with a typed transcriptions.
This adds 1 very important aspect - all the names in the obituary will now
become apart of the search function for the site, whereas before names
mentioned in the obit would not have been returned as a "hit" when searched.
Thanks Ida!

Do you have information to place online? Do you have a will, a picture of
a headstone, access to the GA Death Index so more years can be added?
Please help us make this site a treasure trove for researchers.

Sincerely,

Denise Smiley
