Susan and Ida,
Ladies, thank you very much for your reply regarding Lela Township. By the
map I found Lela was, in fact, in the new Seminole Co. vice Decatur. I do
know that my grandfather, John Wesley Duncan, his brother-in law, Bryant
Jones, which was grandmother, Emma Jones Duncan's brother, worked with the
saw mills. My grandfather went on to become the Chief Lumber Inspector for
Seaboard RR in Jacksonville, where I walked thru the door. His father,
Alfred McDaniel Duncan, with wife, Nancy Soles Duncan, lived in Lela where
in 1910 US Census he was a night watchman at the mills. I have searched
Decatur and Seminole cemeteries for Nancy, but can now zero in on Lela,
thanks to the map. Of course, Alfred could have taken Nancy back to
Higgston, Montgomery Co., from whence they and the Joneses had moved from,
for her final rest. I've checked that also, but with negative results.
Anyway, you were both great to come to my aid and I appreciate your
kindnesses. I'll certainly let you know, if and when, something develops.

PS: BTW: Some 13 Joneses rest in the Lynn Family Cemetery by the old Hammock
Springs Freewill Baptist Church a few miles east of Donalsonville just north
of the Jones Family Homestead. I met a third cousin when I visited there in
1989. There was still a run down old shack the locals refer to as "The John
Duncan House". Not much by today's standards, but I sure it was just fine
years ago.

The Cummings family operated a timber operation there early in the 20th
century, and the Cummings home is still there. You can find the map at
