Elaine,
I have a copy of the citation from Jeannette H. Austin's "the Georgians:
Genealogies of Pioneer Settlers", page 97-98.
The section on the will of Michael Dickson has hopelessly confused the
families of Michael Dickson (Lunenburg Co., Va.) and Thomas Dickson
(Halifax Co., VA)
The children of Michael Dickson and either Lucy Crawford Atwood and
Margaret Barnett are
John b. 1780, Benjamin b1783, William b. 1785,Thomasb. 1790, and James
Curry b. 1791. Curry is my line. I descend through his son, James Monroe.
Children of Michael Dickson and Martha (Howard?) are Cyrus (Josiah) b. 1800
and David b. 1802.
Thomas' wives and children are listed below. If anyone on the list spots
any errors, please let me know. Not all of this is confirmed.

"David Dickson: Farmer, agricultural writer. An extraordinarily successful
farmer, Dickson introduced original agricultural methods in the South,
including (1846) the use of Peruvian guano as fertilizer".(Biographical
Dictionary)
David Dickson was one of the wealthiest men in Hancock Co., Ga., if not
the state at the time of his death in 1885. His only child was America
Amanda Dickson , born in 1849, daughter of one of his slaves. Her mother
Julia became his housekeeper and he acknowledged Amanda as his child and
treated her as part of the family. This act alienated him from most of the
"polite society' of the time.
David Dickson died in 1885 leaving his daughter almost his entire estate.
The will was challenged by various relatives but was upheld by the Georgia
Supreme Count.
