Notes for Sarah "Sally" Miller:
General Notes: Source: Anne Bowden on Medlock surname message board at familyhistory.com:
Hello, Willie Mae: I take it you are in Alabama? Perhaps the records there can help us sort out this convoluted family! Jon Medlock and I have been throwing this back and forth for years now! I'm a descendant of Amanda Corley, daughter of Curtis Corley and Mary Hudman. She referred to Sarah "Salle" Miller Bagwell as aunt. Here is the will of Sarah:
Sarah's Last Will and Testament, dated March 11, 1886, is recorded in Will Book D, 1852 - 1886, pages 367 - 369. This book is located in the Gwinnett County Probate Judges' Office in Lawrenceville, Georgia.
Following is the text from her Will:
State of Georgia, Gwinnett County. In the name of God, Amen. I, Sarah Bagwell of the State and County aforesaid, being of sound mind and memory and considering the ?????? of this frail and tractitory life, do therefore make, ordain, publish, and declair this to be my last will and testament that is to say -
First after all my lawful debts are paid and discharged the residue of my Estate I give and bequeath and dispose of as follows to wit:
Second to my beloved nephews to wit: Jasper Medlock Two hundred and fifty Dollars, and to John Medlock Two hundred and fifty dollars, and William Medlock Two hundred dollars, and to Robbert Medlock Two hundred Dollars it being their full share of my Estate both real and personal.
Third, to my sister Amanda Pittard I give and bequeath to her Four hundred Dollars it being her full share of my Estate.
Fourth, to my brother Joseph H. Corley Four hundred Dollars it being his full share of my Estate.
Fifth to my niece and nephew to wit: W.J. Corley and John M. Corley and M.D. Corley and J. L. Corley and Marthey V. Corley Four hundred Dollars to be equally divided between them share and share alike.
Sixth: to the surviving children of my sister Rudy Bagwell One thousand Dollars to be equally divided between them share and share alike.
Seventh: to my brother Mark Miller and his surviving children I will and bequeath the remaining portion of my Estate both real and personal to be equally divided between them share and share alike with the exceptions of my household and kitchen furniture which I dispose of as follows to wit: To my sister Amanda Pittard one bed and one doublewove Counterpair and one doublewove checked Coverled and other bed clothing sufficient for the bed. And to my niece Euellene Phillips one bed and bedding for the same. To my niece Sarah Bagwell one bed and bedding for the same. To my niece Martha V. Colley one bed and bedding for the same. I also desire the remainder of my household and kitchen furniture to be equally divided between heretofore mentioned heirs.
Likewise I make constitute and appoint A.A. Johnson and Mark Miller to be executors of this my Last will and Testament hereby revoking all former wills by me made.
In witness whereof I have hereunto subscribed my name and affixed my seal the 11th day of March in the year of our Lord 1886.
Sarah Bagwell (signed with her mark)

S. Young that the said Sarah Bagwell signed the same freely and voluntarily and was at the time of such signing of sound and disposing mind memory. Georgia Gwinnett County. I Mark Miller, Jr. do solemnly swear that this writing contains the true Last Will and testament of the within named Sarah Bagwell deceased so far as I know or believe and that I will well and truly execute the same in accordance with the Laws of this State so help you God. M. Miller, Jr.
Sworn to and subscribed before me March 5th 1888. James T. Lawkin, Ordinary. Recorded March 15th 1888; James T. Lawkin, Ordinary.
Sarah's brother, Mark Miller (8/3/1805 - 2/22/1888), was to be the executor of Sarah's Will but he passed away on February 22, 1888, only five days after Sarah. Mark Miller, Jr. became the executor of Sarah's Will.
It is my opinion that Mary Hudman, daughter of John Hudman, married a Miller first and had Mark and Sarah. Then she married Curtis Corley and had John Hudman, Rhoda (m. Bagwell), David L., Valentine Lockhart, Hiram Joseph, Caroline & my Mary Amanda. The last 4 had John Hudman Corley & Mark Miller involved in their guardianship in the late 1830's. It appears that Mary died before her father, and her portion was given to her minor children. About the same time, John Medlock died, too, so these families seem to have banded together for these minor children. S ure wish some of them would speak up and tell us if our guesses are right, though!
Please contact me if you want to go further with this discussion. Anne
LARKIN BAGWELL & SARAH "SALLY" MILLER. They were married 1830 in Prob. Gwinnett Co., GA. They had 1 child.
i.AMANDA BAGWELL [3, 2].
