GAMBILL Mrs. Helen May (Wood), 96, funeral services will be 10:00 a.m.
Wednesday in Bill Merritt Funeral Chapel, 4605 S. Penn. Burial will be 3:30
p.m. at Big Cabin, Ok. Mrs. Gambill died Monday in an Oklahoma City hospital.
Born July 7, 1896, at Thayer, Ms., Mrs. Gambill came to Minco, 1 Indian
Territory from Nebraska at the age of 8 with her parents, Delbert C. and Helen
Wood. The family moved to Big Cabin where Helen graduated from Big Cabin
School as class valedictorian and later married Cecil Ray Cambill. Helen
attended Northeastern Oklahoma Normal School and taught at White Oak and Big
Cabin. The family later lived at Shamrock, Pearsonia, Webb City, Ok., Arkansas
City, Ks., Canton, Southard, Weatherford, Rocky, Kingfisher, Tonkawa, Guthrie
and Del City. Mrs. Gambill was a member of Capitol Hill United Methodist
Church. She retired as buyer for John A. Brown Co. in 1959 and later worked at
the Methodist Orphanage and NE State University. Helen lived at Andrews Square
Senior Citizens Center from July 1975 until December 1990.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Wynn W.; three sisters, Ruth
Grimes, Bess Gibson and Hazel Boyer; and two brothers, Wynn Wood and Delbert
C. "Doc" Wood. Helen is survived by a daughter, Gwen, Bella Vista, Ar.; two
sons, Max, Kingwood, Tx.
and Ray, OKC; six grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren; and her beloved
sister-in-law, Marietta Comes, Duncan.
