A request came in on this list re: information on The Master Genealogist
Gold version 4. I have been using TMG for about the past 15 months
(after previously using Family Tree Maker for 2-3 years). I can heartily
endorse TMG as a superb genealogy program. It would be particularly good
for county genealogy groups, etc. because of its "genbridge" technology
where it can directly import genie info from almost all other genealogy
programs (still only exports in its own format and/or gedcom). But in
that way, you get past the typical "I imported this gedcom but some info
got dropped" etc. TMG is intuitively easy to use, yet satisfies even the
most strenuous genealogists' standards regarding its ability to cite
sources, etc. It has many report writing capabilities (which I have not
fully explored) in particular some wall chart making capabilities. TMG
is not available in stores. It is available from its vendor's web site
(Wholly Genes Software, http://www.WhollyGenes.com/ ). It is also
available through a host of authorized online dealers (I bought my copy
from a dealer in Saskatchewan, Canada because of the superior exchange
rate). TMG is very, very useful for large databases (I am approaching
some 70,000 individuals in my genealogy database, including some 8500
Garner-Keene descendants). By the way, I am not personally connected to
Wholly Genes or TMG in any way.
