Hi All;
My g-grandfather Nathan Arrowood was from Towns county. His family lived in
the Hightower community near Hiawassee. According to a story in
_Hearthstones of Home_, he was born about 1847, a son of Nathaniel and
Sarah Barrett Arrowood.
On 17 Aug 1875, he married Martha Arkansas Eller, known to my family as
Grandma Kansas.
On with the mystery...
Nathan & Kansas left Towns county. The lived a while near Murphy, Cherokee,
NC. Later, Grandma Kansas showed up in Sylva, Jackson, NC --- without
Nathan. I don't know when or where he died.
There's a rumor in our family that he was killed during an argument. He and
another man (name unknown) were slaughtering hogs when the argument
started. The other man reportedly cut Nathan's throat. The story suggests
that Nathan was buried in the Hanging Dog cemetery near Murphy.
I can't prove the rumor true or false. If Nathan's lying at Hanging Dog,
he's in an unmarked grave. And I don't know when he died.
If you've any ideas, if you've heard a weird story like this, if you've
seen my Nathan (figuratively speaking), please let me know.
Kind Regards,
Kirk Stephens
P.S. I apologize to those of you who receive two copies of this message.
I'm not a cross-poster, but this was so appropriate for both lists. -- ks.
