Hello Mr. Thomas,

I assume that this Barker family is related to "mine"; in the 1850 Federal census we see a John Barker and a William Barker, ages 12 and 13, living in the household of an Irwin Rigby in Houston, Georgia. Family lore has it that the Barker brothers - John and William - were orphans. I am descended from William A(rtemus) Barker, who apparently was the brother of John Barker. William A. Barker became a schoolteacher and lived in Wilcox County, Georgia; he died in 1862 in Virginia while serving with the 49th Georgia Infantry. His son, William C(urtis) Barker, was my gr-gr-grandfather. William Curtis Barker's daughter was my gr-grandmother Mary Eveline Barker, who married William D. Simmons in Turner, Georgia in 1902. I assume your John A. Barker is a cousin of my Mary E. Barker (who was also born in 1886) and that this makes us cousins, as well (if you are a descendant of John A. Barker, that is). As far as living relatives of this family are concerned, I'm not in touch with an!
y of them but my grandmother Emma B. Simmons, who turns 98 years of age this August 20th and lives in Albany, Georgia, may know some of them. Let me ask her and get back to you asap - you can e-mail me at .

Regards,

Tom Simmons
Castle Rock, Colorado
