To All GEISE/GEISS MailList Subscribers,
Rootsweb is in the process of making some adjustments to their management of MailList messages. They refer to the process of changing from the old system to the new system as "migration." They started migrating surname MailLists beginning with the letter "A." By the time they got to "C" they had encountered too many glitches to continue, so migration operations were suspended from 21-25 August. Now they feel they have the glitches worked out.
Migration for the GEISE/GEISS MailList is presently scheduled for Tuesday, 29 August 2006. Hopefully we will see the transition of this MailList completed quickly and cleanly.
I am posting this administrative advisory to all subscribers inviting your attention to two changes that every subscriber is urged to make under the new management system:
1) The new address for posting messages drops the "-L" before the "@" so that the new address for posting messages is . I understand the old address, , will continue to work for a limited period of time. Unless advised otherwise before Thursday, 31 August, you are urged to use the new address, , beginning this coming Thursday, 31 August.
2) Some E-mail programs can turn on settings that block delivery of mail sent from addresses that do not appear in your own address book. To ensure your E-mail gate is open for incoming messages from the MailList, it is recommended that you immediately enter the new address, , in your own address book. The old address with the "L" in it will no longer serve in your address book to open your E-mail security gates. (I understand this is particularly critical for AOL users.) Depending on your security setup, entering the new address in your address book might not be absolutely necessary in your case but it can cause no harm and it might help ensure trouble-free delivery of MailList messages for you.
To check to see if you have been migrated successfully to the new system, please do not send a vacuous "Test" message to . Instead, please post a message on Thursday or Friday, 31 August or 1 September, (or as soon as possible thereafter) to tell other subscribers something you have found interesting about GEISE/GEISS family history or ask a question you have about our family. Any brief message will serve the purpose but, if possible, try to include something other subscribers will enjoy reading. If nothing better, just list your ancestral surnames that are somehow related to the GEISE surname. I will be using your postings as a "roll call" to check for successful migration of each subscriber. Please let me know immediately if you encounter any difficulties making or receiving posts under Rootsweb's new management system.
I might have overlooked something that should have been covered in this admin advisory. Some of the changes Rootsweb is making are fairly complicated, but computers have been programmed to make most changes seamlessly. If you have operational questions or concerns about the changes Rootsweb is making, please do not post them to the whole MailList: rather address them to me using my admin address, . I will try to answer or get answers for you. If the issue you raise is of general interest, I will post it and any responses to the whole MailList.
Sincerely,
Nelson R. Sulouff
Admin
