Subject: Are Theodore and Dietrich used interchangeably?

Some researchers on one of my lines which came to America in the early
1700s from Germany or Barvaria, are claiming that the first names
Theodore and Dietrich are interchangeable. I have other German lines
where the names Dietrich and Theodore are used and there is no
interchangeability, in other words Dietrich is never referred to as
Theodore and vise versa. Has anyone ever come across this?
