Dietrich is the German form of Theodoric. Theodoric is said to translate to "rule folk," although that is argumentative due to the "Theo" (as in theological). Theodore comes from the Greek language, Theodoros, and does translate to "God's gift."

I'll leave it to others to argue - past my bedtime!
