Thank you to Don and Rebecca for their help on this question. Also, I
wasn't aware of the website you suggested, Rebecca, and I found it very
interesting and have bookmarked it for further reference.

I still don't really know if the Dietrich and Theodore mentioned in
1740s Pennsylvania land records are the same person or not, especially
because both names are used in the same deed. But the land deeds are the
only records that names a Theodore and there is no record of his arrival
in PA or mention of him after about 1750, while there is for Dietrich. I
did discover on the website recommended by Rebecca that there is a
German name spelled Theodor and in PA records it easily could have been
spelled Theodore by the recorder.

Sigh...........I wanted it to be easy.
