Deane,
There are better experts on this list than me, but my maternal side is SCHRÖTH and my oldest Uncle pronounced it like SCHRAUTH. I am told that the way to pronounce "ö" which equals "oe" is to form your mouth like you are going to say "oh" but say "e" instead... comes out sort of like a sick "a" when I do it.
