HELLO LIST,

I would like to start a search for my grandmother, Anna Bauer who came to US in 1888 with her mother, Elizabeth Bauer. Anna was born in 1880 according to her NY marriage certificate. The certificate lists Gudensberg, Hessen-Nassau as Anna's place of birth. I would like to use this as a starting point, but don't know who to contact (or where) in Germany.

I cannot find Anna and Elizabeth on the Ellis Island site, but have found them in the New York Federal Census. Now I would like to go back and find out about her family. There are no other relatives that I know of in the US with any more information.
