Hi Anna,
I to just posted to this new list and hope it will be as fruitful as the NYC-ROOTS list. They were also in Germany only earlier. You mentioned that you could not find them on the Ellis Island site. Don't give up too easily. My SPONHEIMERs came over to Castle Garden which was alot earlier than Ellis Island . However, I did search for both my mother ad sister who came over from CZ in 1922 and my husband's maternal granparents who came fom Hungary in 1903 and 4 to Ellis Island. It was not an esasy task and some people did help me find them. Have you tried different spellings of the names??. They really mutilitated both the surname and the given names in both cases.
Someone experimented for me and found Mojka (Mojkova or Moykova) under Moskova and LUCATS or LUKACS was some other crazy spelling I forget. Forget about SPONHEIMER as that is always mispelled .
Don't give up though and keep on trying . Hopefuylly you will be abale to find them. SPONHEIMER was transcribed on one ships list in Germans to America as SPONHEUNR or something ike that. Have you tried the books Germans to America?? I think you can find them at many FHC and even people that will do lookups for you on-line.
Hope I have helped just a little bit. . When I started a couple years ago I knew nothing about most of our families and have found out alot due to the help of alot of good people out there and persevrence. (sp?).
Blessings,
Marilyn SPONHEIMER
