Stefan,
I just checked the Heritage Quest site for different U.S. Censuses in Oregon and did not find any W. Vosses in Oregon on their records. Good luck in finding "your" Wilhelm. I checked out different variations of spelling of "VOSS": Vos, Vas, Vass, Boss, Bos, Gauss etc. Remember U.S. census takers were not allowed to ask for spellings of names.

Hello fellow genealogists,
with the big help from Clark Pederson from this list, I tracked down one of my ancestors Wilhelm Voss in the 1885 Umatilla County, Oregon, State census:
http://genealogy.state.or.us/start.lasso?location=search
Most probably, he is the entry listet below.
However, now I tried to get access to the full record but without success so far. A few weeks ago I wrote an email to the mentioned address (see below), without any answer. Would it be possible from anyone on this list to help me find a way to get access to the full record?
Thanks alot,
Stefan Jakobi from Bürstadt, Germany

Hello,
my name is Stefan Jakobi from Bürstadt, Germany.
During the research for my ancesors I came across an entry in the 1885 Umatilla County Oregon state census:
Voss, Wm 12-31-1885 Census Umatilla Genealogical pg 026
This is most probably a person of great interest for me. How can I proceed to get a copy of the whole record of that person, including information on wife and children (!) etc.
I know that this might include some cost. Please let me know how much and how I could cover the costs from Germany.
Thanks you very much for your support, it is most appreciated,
Stefan Jakobi

Hi Stefan,
one other way would be :
On our US-census website
http://www.saxonyroots.com/census/
there is a listing for the Oregon Umatilla county,
however, only for the 1920 census.
But there is a transcriber of the census lists mentioned:
Ann Hopkins
Maybe Ann has an answer for you ??
Good luck !!
Wolf [Zscheile]

Hello,
I live in Portland, Oregon. I called the state archives a few minutes ago. They are ready to send me a copy of this record from the original microfische..... But..... There is a fee of $5.00.
If you can figure a way to get the $5.00 to me, I will be glad to order and then send to you. The person I talked to said it would take about a week for me to receive after I have ordered. Since this is a toll call for me, I would order by mail so that would take a few more days.
Carol
