Greetings to all! (Don't think that will get me into trouble with the ACLU
- at least not YET)

Well, anyway, I have been searching, for ever it seems, to get immigration
info on the Gaessler family - Johannes, his wife, Emerenzia, their daughters
Maria Emerenzia and Christiane, and their son, Gottlob. Some time around 1864
they left their home in Pfalzgrafenweiler, Freudenstadt, Weurttemberg and
came to Dayton, Ohio. Johannes almost immediately opened his business of
making and selling shoes. He was followed by Gottlob and between them operated
the business for nearly eighty years.

I have done the usual genealogical research with no satisfaction. Yesterday
I contacted hamburg.de and was advised "no record". Contact with LDS
yielded the following and here, I hope, someone can explain the ramifications:

"Source Annotation. Date of application to emigrate with intended
destination. In a few cases, date indexed indicates emigrant's undated application
was received before the date cited. Also provides date and place of birth and
film number. Extracted from a comprehensive indexing of the microfilm
records filmed at Ludwigsburg and available on microfilm at the Genealogical
Society of Utah in Salt Lake City. Volumes 1 and 2 of this source were indexed as
nos. 8057.4 and 8057.5 in PILI 1989 and 1990."

I have reviewed the film I received, but the only thing legible was
Johannes' name.

So now, where oh where, can I hope to find out how Johannes et al arrived in
the USA?

Thanks for your patience.

Bill
