Hello Betty,
The surname LOTH appears in the Vogelsberg region of Hessen-Darmstadt, e.g.
Herbstein, Nieder-Ohmen, Ober-Ofleiden, Merlau and environs.

I checked with HADIS but the Peter LOTH that appears there immigrated to
Poland in 1837, so I doubt that this is the same person.

Since Peter J. is not listed on HADIS, this means that he must have
immigrated secretely because he probably hadn't done his time in the
military yet. He gave his age as 19 but it was probably closer to 17.

The abbreviation 'Hy' is of course the English abbr. for 'Henry'.

Peter J Loth had a clothing store in Buffalo, according to the 1870 census.
His wife Felicia nee Kuebel was born in Baden. So they must have married in
Buffalo.

Perhaps you can find his obituary that may reveal more information.
