I found that most of my grandfather's WWI military records were lost as
well. NARA had reconstituted some, and I found several papers in his
personal files and provided them to NARA, for which they were grateful.
They also provided some medals he never received or forgot to pick up
upon discharge.

I am not positive, BUT, I believe that they have made
a concentrated effort to replace as many of the burned
records as possible.
If you have not tried for a while, try again and ask that
