Hello Jim,

while doing a very quick look-up on ancestry for "Johann Hartmann" - origin: Hessen-Darmstadt - I find a whole bunch of passenger lists providing that name.

So you would have to provide more details about the person you are looking for in order to have a chance finding him and his family:

Possible time of immigration / emigration
Age at immigration / emigration
Travelled together with family members: what are their names, ages...
Have you found him on any censuses in the US - and if so when, where - details please.
Etc. etc.
