Hello Everyone,

There is a difference of opinion on the ancestry of Henry Geyer. I feel that
Henry Geyer born 17 Aug 1751 to John George Geyer and Maria Margaretta
Engertman/Wingertman is not the same Henry Geyer who married Catherine Stamm.
Here is what I show for the family of Henry born 1751.

1. Elisabetha Geyer was born on 17 Feb 1775 in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.
She was baptized on 2 Apr 1775 in White Oaks Congregation, Lancaster County,
Pennsylvania. The sponsors were Jacob Oesterlin and Elisabeth Geyer.
2. Jacob Geyer was born about 1777 in Berks County, Pennsylvania. He was
baptized on 19 Oct 1777 in Heidelberg, Cacusa, St. John's or Hain's, Berks
County, Pennsylvania. The sponsors were Jacob Geyer and Maria Margaretha.
3. Johannes Geyer was born about 1779 in Berks County, Pennsylvania. He was
baptized on 3 Oct 1779 in Heidelberg, Cacusa, St. John's or Hain's, Berks
County, Pennsylvania. The sponsors were George Geyer and Anna Margaretha.
4. John George Geyer was born on 22 Jan 1791 in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.
He was baptized on 20 Nov 1791 in Muddy Creek Church, East Cocalico Township,
Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. The sponsors were John George and Margaret
Geier.

In the baptism record for Elisabetha and John George, Henry's wife is listed as
Anna. Since George and Margaret, the parents of Henry, were the sponsors at the
baptisms of Johannes and John George above, I am fairly certain that I have the
correct Henry as the son of John George Geyer and Maria Margaretta Wingertman. A
comparison of the children of George's Henry to the children for Henry and
Catharine Stamm Geyer yields some interesting points:

1. Johannes (John) born 1779 appears in both lists. He probably doesn't belong
in the list of children for Henry and Catherine Geyer.

2. Henry and Anna's Jacob was born prior to his baptism on 19 Oct 1777. Henry
and Catharine's Jacob was born 10 Jun 1786.

3. Henry and Anna's Elizabeth was born 17 Feb 1775. Henry and Catharine's
Elizabeth was probably born about 1801.

4. Henry and Anna's John George doesn't appear in the list of Henry and
Catharine's children.

My web site didn't reflect the latest information I had on Henry but I updated
the site this morning. It now reflects the same information listed above along
with specific citations to the source information I found. You can find George's

I believe that Henry, who married Catharine, is a son of Frederick Geyer and was
born 5 Dec 1753 in York County, PA. Hopefully, later today or tomorrow, I will
add some pages covering the information I have on the descendants of Frederick
Geyer and his two wives.

Can anyone provide a citation to the marriage record of Henry Geyer and
Catharine Stamm?

Sorry if I am creating a controversy. That is not my intention. I am just trying
to correct an error and, of course, the error could well be mine. Thanks to all
those who posted messages recently. There was some great information in these
postings.
