I have been researching my Geyer ancestors for some time, and have confirmed an important link that I thought I should share with the community.
My Geyers came to North America through NYC, and settled in Welland County, Ontario Canada. I have just spent some time squinting at some German church records, and can say with confidence that my ancestors came from Dirmstein, Laumersheim Parish, Bavaria (the Palatinate).
If any of you are descended from these Welland Geyers, feel free to drop me a line. Similarly, if your Geyers also came from (or you believe they came from) Dirmstein, I'd be happy to hear from you. As with many Geyers, the name Sauer is also part of the tree.
If time passes and you want to follow up but can't get ahold of me, the source LDS film is #1457587, Evangelische-Reformieste Kirche, Laumersheim. It seems to cover about 1827-1872. Many of the records are even harder to read than your average German church records, so be prepared.
Good luck,
Brandt
