Re. Robin Thackabary's request:
A family tree for the Devon Giffords (Giffords of Halsbury) is in J. L.
Vivian's The Visitations of the County of Devon pages 396 - 403. The tree
starts with Osbert de Bolbec and goes through the late 1800s. I photocopied
this years ago in the Boston Public Library. However, I don't see a Samuel
Gifford in this tree.
Some other sources: 1) Wescote, A View of Devonshire - Boston Public Library
(BPL) pgs 627, 628. 2) Tuckett, Devonshire Pedigrees - BPL several pages.
3) Worthy, Devonshire Wills BPL pg 92. 4) Colby, Visitations of Devon. 5)
Burkes Landed Gentry, pgs 2-8 Brightly. 6) Williams B., Ancient Westcounty
Families and Their Armorial Bearings. 7) Worthy, Charles, Devonshire
Parishes -- 28 families, 8) Roger Granville, Abstracts of the Existing
Transcripts 1596-1644, 9) George Wrottelsey, The Giffards, William Salt
Society Collections, (pgs 12, 19-44)New Ser. v., 1902; + The Ancestor, iii.
