I don't have the original post about this book, so I don't know who all got
the note, BUT, this is NOT the most accurate book on the GIFFORD family.
Being over a century old, much more has come forth that isn't included, so
don't worry too much if you can't get it.
I bought a copy from one of the repro companies, and the photocopy is
hard to read in most places. It's a poor copy, but I do have it. It's also in
the Family History Library in Salt Lake City, I believe.
The GIFFORD book I like is the one on the Elihu Gifford line. The author
descends from all three wives of William Gifford of Sandwich, the immigrant
ancestor, though he doesn't adequately identify the wives in the book. I
don't have it in front of me right now, so I can't say more about it in this
e-mail.
I _do_ have the entire database of the NEHGS Register series on William
Gifford of Sandwich in my computer. The index to said series was compiled by
the author of the book in the above paragraph, and he even has a "wives
index" -- that's how I found that my great-grandfather's father was William
Green Gifford -- I knew his mother was Maria Pierson. [I subsequently
confirmed this with census records, etc.]
Good luck, and just wanted to comment on Harry Gifford's book.
