I recently joined the Gifford mailing list and as a result saw your post.I
wondered if you might have any information on my Vermont Giffords.
This is what I know thus far. Susan Gifford possibly b. 1834 in Milton,
Vermont,died May 16, 1882 also in Milton,VT.(One record has her as being
born in Burlington,Vt but I checked records there and they have no listing
for her so I would assume she was born instead in Milton.I've found other
Giffords in Milton but haven't determined if they are relations of Susan's.
I would assume they were as Milton is still a very small town and was even
smaller bak in those days.) She was the daughter of Rueben and Maria (maiden
name unknown)Gifford. Her parents might have imigrated from Quebec, Canada
and or England. She married Thomas Lavanway also of Milton (date and year
unknown). They had the following children: Maria (my great grandmother),Jed,
Lila,Thomas and Benjamin (and possible some children who were stillborn
or died shortly after birth).
