I am seeking information on John S. Gifford, who lived in Alabama, but was born in New York according to his headston which was a CSA memorial Headstone he was married to Eliza Jane Defoe. They are buried in Pine Grove Cemetery in Florence, Alabama. John is my 3rd greatgrandfather and almost everyone I have found has posted his middle name as Sherman, but according to my 2nd great grandmother's (Martha Emeline Gifford Jenkins) death certificate his middle name was Sylvester. Also everyone who has a tree on ancestry that has him in their tree has his parents as Abraham Gifford and Lucy Sherman. If these are 2 different John S. Gifford's I would like to make any corections possible. Therefore, I am looking for any help I can find. Thank you.
