I was reading my peply to Sian's post and should of added something this is something on James Gillingham' father in law John Bly here is some things he said regarding Bridget Bishop at the witch trials.
From accounts that I have read about the Salem witch trials John Bly was one of the accusers of Bridget Bishop, she being the first to be tried and convicted as a witch. From testimony that I have read it seems that John Bly bought a hog from Bridget Bishop and her husband. John and Rebecca testified that the hog was possessed and that she, Bridget Bishop had bewitched the hog. John Bly and his son William had been tearing down a wall for Bridget and her husband and had found puppets made of cloth with pins, pointed upwards, sticking out of the puppets, it seems this was one of the signs of being a witch. Further evidence was brought against her by other neighbors, some saying that she came to them in the night.
It is nice to know we live in a some what safer society. Pat
