Tom,
I'm looking for Gilroys who first stopped in NY - Sullivan County, then
settled in Scranton around 1860. Michael & William Gilroy, blacksmiths,
born in the 1850's in NY, parents Michael Gilroy & Mary Dolphin, both
born in Ireland. John Gilroy was another brother, he was born in Ireland,
just before 1850, so they probably immigrated same time as your family.
There was a Patrick Gilroy also living in Sullivan County NY, but he moved
out to SF by 1870. (he also married a Mary, and and had children John &
Mary.)
Lots of Marys, Margarets, Michaels and Johns! UGH!
