"James GLENN purchased March 27, 1801, 287 1/2 acres adjacent to land of
Jacob LINDSAY which had been granted to Joel BROWN, who sold to Robert
WILSON who sold to John BARNETT, from whom GLENN obtain the tract. This was
in the Walnut-Mulberry Forks area and John GLENN was shown in the 1804 tax
list on Walnut. Enumerated in 1820, besides James above, were John W. (no.
608), John (no. 786) and Wiley (no. 930). In the 1827 Lottery, James, a
Revolutionary soldier, living in Dupree's district, drew land in Lee County
granted Dec. 11, 1835; also in Jackson were Elizabeth, widow of a
revolutionary soldier (aged 81 in 1820); and George W., the latter in
Story's district in 1827. Anne, widow of a soldier, was in Jasper County
that year. The GLENN and TYREE families, which intermarried, are found in
Albermarle County and nearby areas of Virginia. James and Patience GLENN
moved from Albermarle to Surry County, NC, and he and Tyree GLENN (see a
Tyree's ___ in Lunenburg County, VA in 1763) were on the 1771 Surry Tax
list; Tyree died in ____ and James in 1781. The will of John GLENN Sr. in
nearby Rockingham County NC March 14, 1791, named his wife Sarah, and
children William, Mary, Sally, John, ____, Isaac, Daniel, James, Elizabeth,
and his son-in-law Darby RYAN (a name previously found in Franklin County,
VA). William GLENN of Rockingham bought March 12, _____, (1800 Pendleton
Census, p. 85) land on Oolenoy Creek in Pendleton District from ____ Davis
with Amos LADD (From Surry County, NC) as a witness. William moved to
Pendleton and various members of the family are found in the Pendleton
records during the 1790s, and others in Laurens, Chester, Newberry, and
Spartenburg Districts, SC. ____ was in Greenville District in 1800. The
family was represented in Wilkes County, GA, as early as 1785 and
subsequently many of them were in Oglethorpe County, GA where they
intermarried with the MERIWEATHERS and GOOLSBYS, among others. In Franklin
County, GA, William GLENN married Rosa AARON Nov. 17, 1808. In 1820, Jemicy
was in ____ County; James and Joseph in Elbert COunty, among others in the
state."
