Thanks for your reply. I don't know of any connections to Pt. Colborne but
the Gonyou name is quite unique and I am sure we are related somehow. When
you are able, please send me your grandfather's name, and if possible his
father's name. Hopefully your grandmother can provide them. What I know
about the Gonyou name is that it is an anglisized version of a French name
and that it was probably first used in the Kingston area around 1820-1850.
There were three brothers, one of whom died without children, one from whom
I am descended, and a third who moved to Hastings county and which we have
no record of beyond that. You may be a descendent of that line, or of the
same line as myself. I have a second cousin who has a very good geneology
prepared and once we have your grandfather or great-grandfather's name we
should have agood idea of your family history.
What area in England does your family live in? My great uncle served in WWI
in the Dover area.
