Hi Karon

All of the German soldiers, or Hessians as they were called, were born in
Germany and sailed from that country to North America. There were none born
in America, and besides, Asa is not a German name. I did, however, find
several Asa Smith's in New York belonging to Militia regiments, as follows;

1. Albany County Militia, Seventh Regiment
2. Dutchess County Militia, Sixth Regiment
3. Dutchess County Militia, Seventh Regiment
4. Orange County Militia, Third Regiment.

Hope that helps. I don't have the resources to check the State of
Massachusetts for militia involvement, sorry.
