Cindy,

I am also a descendant of Therese Louise (Thankful) Stebbins.

She was about 12 years old when taken from Deerfield in 1704. Her sister had
been recently (Feb14) married to Jacques deNoyon, a soldier in the French
Army. He was in the Stebbins house at the time of the raid.

Thankful, her parents, and several siblings were among the 100 plus residents
of Deerfield Village that were transported back to Chambly and its environs by
the invading French and Indian forces.

She converted to catholicism on 23 April 1707, changing her name from Thankful
to Louise Therese, and married Charles LeGrain at Ste-Famille de Boucherville
on 4 Feb 1711. She had about 10 kids. I have most of the baptismal records
of these children.

Her grandfather John Stebbins came to Springfield Mass in 1636 with William
pynchon and John moved to Northampton and helped found that town. His son
John, Thankfuls father, eventually went to Deerfield.

It should be understood that in 1700 Deerfield, Mass. was the northernmost and
western most outpost of the English settlements. A real threat to the French
and Indians.

There is more history than there is time to write here, but the history of the
FRench and Indian wars gives an glimpse of the times. Therea are several
books written about the captives taken to Canada, by foot, over 300 miles, in
the snow, in the winter. An arduous trek to say the least.

I am descended through her daughter Charlotte leGrain who married Jean-
Baptiste Viens, my paternal great grandmother's name(georgianna viens).

MOre if you write!!!

Paul Lajoie
