Ordination of Rev. Thomas Carter, November 22, 1642 O.S. From the
painting by Albert Thompson, which hangs in the town library of Woburn,
MA. The characters represented in the painting are, standing left to
right, John Cotton, minister, First Church of Boston; Richard Mather,
minister, First Church of Dorchester; John Elliott, Apostle to the
Indians, First Church of Roxbury; Captain Edward Johnson, one of the
founders of both church and town; Thomas Carter, one of the lay members
of the church; John Wilson, Minister, First Church of Charlestown,
Visiting Minister. Seated at lower right and bareheaded is Increase
Nowell, magistrate from Charlestown. The others are members of the
Church. Scanned from a photograph enclosed in a letter dated July 24,
1997, from Elizabeth Sinclair.
