There was quite a bit of discussion on this subject a short while ago.
My favorite method is to use shaving cream on the letters, wipe across
with a straight such as a ruler, then photograph. The cream washes off
and the letters show up great in the photograph. I used this method in
MAchias, and all was easily readable.
