Subject: Re: Photographing old tombstones

This has been a most interesting thread. Thought I'd throw another hook in
the water.
When I was doing some photographing last fall, I carried along a small
(Handheld) tape recorder and read the tombstone inscriptions to "it." To me
it was easier than getting out notebook and pen and transcribing.
The fun was playing it back as I rode the 300 miles home - I could feel the
thrill in my voice of being there and finding my grandparents and great
parents! Not only that - but I made voice notes of the view from the hill top
where they had been laid to rest - who was buried nearby - the old trees
standing guard. All those little special things you won't remember later.
If you have access to one of those recorders - try it sometime when you're
taking a walk and see how much fun it is to listen to later. And don't get me
started on the fun of having a camcorder as well - taking a panoramic view of
the cemetery and the sign at the entrance! Stephen S. I'm not but I believe
in storing as much data as you can - until the walls begin to bulge!<G>
