Subject: Restoring parchment....
Date: Tue, 20 Apr 1999 09:02:07 -0700
Of the many genealogy lists to which I subscribe, GenMassachusetts-L
wins hands down as providing the most useful information, not only for
specific individuals but for related info as well.
With that said, I have two questions....I have a document pnnted and
written on parchment in 1839. The parchment got wet at some point and is
wrinkled. Can anyone point me to a site where I might learn how to best
restore and preserve parchment and other paper documents? Also, this
particular document appears to bear a Martin van Buren signature. I know
of another family researcher who has a family document with a John
Quincy Adams signature. Does anyone know of resources available to
authenticate these signatures?
Thanks!
Robert
