Unfortunately I think the info on the death certificate is only as good as
the person giving the info. I have seen this before in my own family.
I believe a family member gives the info. Remember also that they are
distrout at the time they are giving this info. I have had two situations in
our family where the info was wrong. On my maternal Great Grandmother her
mother that was listed did not make any sense to me. With a lot of digging
and research, it turned out that the mother listed on her death certificate
was her mother in law. Her real birth mother died when she was a young
child, perhaps she considered her mother in law like a mother to her or
when the info was given a mistake was made. If it doesn't seem right, keep
