Are you sure he was living in a tribe in NC?
The Tuscaroras migrated en masse to Upstate NY from NC after the Second
Tuscarora War of 1712-3. They were Iroquoian speakers who probably
originally had come from NY, and were reincorporated into the Iroquois
Confederation of the Mohawks, Senecas, Oneidas, Onandagas
and Cayugas when they reached Iroquois territory.
The Tuscarora tribe in NY may have info on him, though I don't
know how you'd contact them.
