Prof. Samuel Pierpont LANGLEY (IV ?)

Physicist, astronomer, early aviation experimenter
(his steam-powered, unmanned aircraft were the first
heavier-that-air aircraft to fly), Secretary of the
Smithsonian Institution and namesake of Langley
Air Force Base in my home town of Hampton, VA.

S P LANGLEY was b. 1834 in Roxbury, MA and
d. 1906 in Aiken, SC. His parents were Samuel
LANGLEY (III ?) and Mary Sumner Williams --
SUMNER another famous MA name.

If the roman numerals are accurate, the Pierpont
connection was sometime in the 18th century. Roxbury
was where the early STOWs and PIERPONTs hung out,
and intermarried. J. Pierpont MORGAN, the financier,
was among their descendants.

Does anyone have Langley's ancestry? Specifically,
I'm trying to find where the Pierpont middle
name came from. Did he have PIERPONT ancestors?

TIA,
