Hello all!
In Rhode Island we call a coffee frappe or milkshake a: COFFEE CABINET
The lingo is not used too much any more but you will find those of us who
have lived in RI for a long time still call it that.
Next trime you go into a Newport Creamery ask for one and see what kind of
reaction you get. They should know what you mean even in MA. Well south
eastern MA anyway.

I grew up in Westwood, MA (now live in Phoenix) and back home we still call
any kind of soda Tonic and a shake is still a frappe. If you ask for a
frappe here in Arizona, you'll get a puzzled look!
I went to an ice cream place here and asked for "jimmies" . I got a blank
stare and a "Huh?" and realized people from the southwest call them
sprinkles.
How about that thing women carry?? Back home we call them pocketbooks and
out here in AZ we call them purses.
My kids spend the summers back home in Westwood with my parents so they are
familiar with the different terms but my son, Terry, still insists on a
frappe here in AZ! Oh, don't ask for a shake in Boston...or you'll get
whipped up milk...no ice cream in that one!
