Hello, I haven't posted in a long time so I wanted to repost.
I am looking for a Charles Henry Briggs born 7October1861-65 birthplace unk
possibly MA. Charles was a shoe lasiter (maker) and lived in Jersey City,
Hudson County, New Jersey from 1891 until 1902 when he and his wife, Mary
(May) Agnes McCarthy and sons, Harold Charles and James Lester moved to St.
Louis, Missouri. He and his family lived in Missouri until his death in
1913. His descendants still live here in and around St. Louis.
Charles lists his parents as Charles and Stella Briggs (her maiden name was
also listed as Briggs on this document which was his marriage license,
Charles Henry and his wife were both catholic). On Charles death certificate
filled out by his wife, it lists parents as Charles born MA and Mary
Dunbar/Denbar/Dunham (hard to read) born MA. So I am not quite sure who his
parents are.
I cannot find Charles from his birth to 1891. There is a family rumor that
he was into some type of legal trouble and changed his name from Angle/Engle
to Briggs. But I cannot find anything to support this I have found him from
1891 till his death, always listed as Briggs, but again I can not find him
prior to 1891.
I have found that the surname Briggs is like Smith in some area's. Is there
any Briggs' out there that may recognize any of the above names or possible
situation? Your help is greatly appreciated. I have been searching for a
very long time and have found this brick wall to be completely impenetrable.
