Subject: Re: [GM-L] air raid wardens

We lived on Long Island during the war and my father was an Air Raid Warden,
as were many of our neighbors. I remember the black out curtins etc.
The Long Island Railroad continued to run with the windows covered over.
If we arrived after dark a Warden would meet all trains with a flashlight and
see that we arrived home safely.
We were there when a group of German sailors arrived off shore via a sub.
What excitement that caused and I seem to remember it was a Warden that
found them. Anyone remember this?
This subject brings back some memories!
