During the American Revolution, thousands of American Patriot Prisoners died
aboard the British Ship "The Jersey"! The story is posted at:

It is estimated that ten thousand American Patriots paid the
supreme sacrifice for their country, mostly in the one "living hell"
ship, the Jersey, yet there were others, but not as deadly. "Abandon ye
all hope who enter here" applies accurately to the infamous Jersey.
