Subject: [GM-L] I think they used a different calendar?
Date: Fri, 31 Mar 2000 04:16:10 EST
I wish I could remember what I read, a few years ago, about the
different method of keeping track of the passage of time that our early
immigrant ancestors used.
When a date is shown in the records to be something like "1641-2" or
"1659-60" it wasn't just because they weren't sure or couldn't make up their
minds. It was because they used a different date, and not January 1, to
indicate the beginning of a new year.
There's probably more to it than that. Could someone please explain this
in better detail than I have?
