Here in Woburn, MA, Loammi Baldwin is a legendary, historical figure.
The beautiful mansion he built along the Middlesex Canal, which he was
instrumental in building, is still here. It has taken on new life as a
wonderful restaurant called Baldwin's Landing, but is still overseen by
the a committee of caretakers who see to it that it's historical
integrity is not compromised in any way.
Your mention of Jame's 2 sisters working on a boat in Mass. leads me to
believe it may have been a boat along the Middlesex Canal (1803-1853)
,which plied a route from Boston to Lowell, MA, as the time frame seems
to suit coincide with their involvement.
