"Minister of the Gospel" ? I have wondered the same as you.
On my grandparent's marriage cert. says they were married by a (Rev White),
Minister of the Gospel. married in White River Jct. VT.
And I do know that some time along their short lives they were
Episcopalians, and the clergy in that faith were not referred to in that
manner, I don't think.
