Subject: [GM-L] Mullein Hill Church, Lakeville, MA, Final Decree, 1956
Date: Thu, 11 Jan 2001 18:21:43 EST

Hi,

This is my continuing work on the Mullein Hill Church, Lakeville, MA.

The first deed I printed up was from the Indians to the town of Middleboro,
later Lakeville.

The second deed I printed up was from Samuel ROBBINS to those who began the
Church.

The third and fourth deeds I printed up were from ASHLEY to SWANSON, and then
SWANSON to EGGER. These deeds include the whole farm and land except the
Church and the Cemetery, which were in the middle of then ROBBINS land.

The next deed is now about the Mullein Hill Church and Cemetery, Highland
Road, Lakeville, MA.

This deed was actually a FINAL DECREE, of 6/8/1956. The Complainant was
Christian Society of Middleboro vs. Heirs at Law and Legal Representatives of
Noah Ashley, Abiel P. Booth, Reuben Hafford, Salmon M. Washburn, Nathaniel
Caswell, Elbridge G. Ashley, John Cushing, William F. Hafford, Charles H.
Sampson, Asa T. Winslow, Job P. Nelson, Joseph Shockley, Harison Staples,
Uriah Sampson, John Booth, Zebulan Shaw, Sumner Hinds, Oliver Peirce, Silas
P. Ashley, and Ezra Clark, and all persons claiming under them or any of them.

This was found in the Plymouth Land Deed, Bk. 2503, P. 500.

The rest of this docket is at the Archives, which I will copy. It appears as
if the Christian Society of Middleboro prevailed. Perhaps the HEIRS of those
who started the Church (1842) wanted the Land, Church & Cemetery for
themselves (later, c. 1956).
